Should you in life do what you like or whats beneficial?

I am a high student who wants to become a pilot. People say this career isn't good because of low income earned by pilots and the number of layoffs. My other alternative is being something like a doctor, its good pay and stuff but its not what I enjoy. What should I do, something i enjoy or something thats beneficial.
