Do you think that lysol would be an effective way to kill bacteria on carpet?

No... Lysol is just a temporary cover up just like febreeze is... If the carpet is light colored use coptic bleach with water LIGHTLY and it will kill ANY germs.. That's why restraunts use a lot of bleach even to wash the cups and stuff...the smell of bleach goes away in about 2 hours or less.. All you do is spray the bleach LIGHTLY and then soak it up with water... It works great
